POP CAN ART 6th

Green Art???..... you might remember from the 1st day of school, art can be made from anything! Here 6th grade students transform pop cans into "Green Art". Creating with once thought un-useful objects,   6th grade students have been busy cutting, gluing, forming, and brainstorming the many possibilities of sculpting pop cans into art!

'Tis the Season 4th

As an art teacher it is very difficult to design creative holiday lessons. Which is one of the reasons students have not made much holiday art in the art classroom. However this lesson is filled with holiday fun and students are still able to gain valuable knowledge about famous artists.  4th grade students had a short introduction of four different artists, Picasso, Miro, Magritte, and Rousseau. Then each student started to design a stocking for their favorite artist out of those four. Next art class students will gather into their artist groups, read about the artist, and artwork. Then they will present their stockings with information about the artist to their class.

Pattern Snakes K-1st

Cutting out a spiral is more difficult then I thought. Through hard work we all were able to cut a spiral, out of paper, to form our snakes.  We discussed patterns and where we can find different patterns in the world. Then the students divided their snakes into 10 different sections to create 10 of their own different patterns.

Leonardo Di Vinci Inventions 4th

Students learned about Leonardo Di Vinci and all of the inventions he kept in his sketchbook. He had flying inventions sketched out back in the 1500's! Students also made their own sketchbooks with many of their very own inventions. Below are some of the students favorite inventions from their sketchbook. You might notice that some of their words are backwards. Leonardo wrote his notes backwards so that it would be hard for people to read and steal his ideas.

Rainforest Animals 2nd

Students learned about the artist Henri Rousseau. Rousseau had many paintings of the rainforest, however he had never been. He learned how to draw the rainforest and animals from books. Students created their own rainforest scene using books just like Rousseau. They hid the animals in a rainforest of many different plants. Students also wrote an artist statement to tell the story about their artwork.




"The Jungle" by Hunter
This jungle is about a gorilla. There are trees and a gorilla in my artwork. A gorilla is swinging. I liked making the grass because I put leaves under then colored. Before I made it I thought making it would be hard. Now I know it was easy

"The Animals Meet" by Christien
This jungle is about animals. There are leaves and creatures in my artwork. Gorillas are yelling is happening. I liked making a gorilla because it's strong. Before I made it I thought of it. Now I know how to make art.

"The Forest is About Animals" By Emily
There are deer, cheetah, frogs, lady bug, bird, monkey, snake, butterfly, and egg. The deer is sleeping. I liked making artwork.

"The Rainforest" by Courtland
This artwork is about animals. There are trees and animals in my artwork. A bird is singing. I liked making the animals because I like animals. Before I made it I thought it was going to be cool. Now I know it is cool.

"Dangerous" by Jonah
This drawing is about dangerous forest animals. There are snakes, bananas, spiders, monkeys, and a wart hog in my artwork. A monkey is swinging is happening. I liked making the monkey because it's fun making it.

Cubism 7th and 8th

Students researched the art movement known as cubism and the 2 artists that started this movement, Picasso and Braque. After they had researched Cubism they presented their information to the classroom. Next we created our own cubism artwork by drawing from a still life.  To start with the students used a ruler and drew at least 5 lines through out their artwork. While they drew the still life they had to change the way we normally see a drawing. Cubism looks like a broken mirror so we wanted to match the cubism style. Students also learned how to collage, paint wood texture, and create value gradations.

Numbers into Pictures 3rd

Students started by numbering their artwork 1-8. Next they had to be creative and think of something different then anybody else in the room. The #2 was most difficult for the students to transform into a picture. Soon everyone had unique pictures which all started from the same 8 numbers.

If Skies Could Talk 5th

Have you heard of the artist Vincent Van Gogh? I was surprised to find out all the information that the 5th grade students already knew about Van Gogh: He only sold one painting in his lifetime, he was depressed, he cut off his ear, he painted "The Starry Night".  Van Gogh used a lot of emotion in all of his artwork. Students choose an emotion that they would like to create along with different skies. Students could not use solid color to paint their artwork but use line instead. The colors used had to match the emotion they choose.

Primary Colors K and 1st

1st grade students learned about the artist, Mondrian. In Mondrian's artwork he works with simple shape and Primary colors. Students placed 5 difference lines on their paper, some vertical lines and  others horizontal lines. The trick is getting the lines exactly up and down, and side to side.  Without mixing colors students had to make the decision of where to place their primary colors.

Kindergarten learned about a different artist named Kandinsky. Kandinsky loved to many shapes and colors in his artwork. We started with the color yellow at painting 8 different shapes. Then we used red to paint a different shape around our yellow shapes. Next we used blue to paint a new shape around our red shapes. Last we start again with yellow, red, and blue until there is no white left in our artwork. We had to be careful not to mix our colors together and make sure to wash our paint brushes out.  In the end we found out mixing primary colors will give us a new color.
