End of Year Self Portraits. K-6

At the very first day of art class students drew a self portrait. For the last lesson of the year we are going to draw self portraits with many different styles. It will be interesting to see how much they have improved!

Kindergarten Green Art

At the beginning of the school year I asked students to start recycling old things that they might not have any use for. In this project students used old magazines, wallpaper, cardboard, fake flowers, and other scraps of paper to create a flower for the spring time.  Students found that you can use pretty much anything in making art!

1st Grade gardens

Its that time of year that many people start planting their gardens. 1st graders shared with me some of their crops that they have already planted in their gardens. The garden we drew only included vegetables that are roots. Roots grow under the ground and the plants leafs grow above. Students studied and drew how different all of the plants above ground appear.

2nd Grade POSTER CONTEST

2nd grade have been working very hard these past 3 class periods on  posters designs for the National School Bus Safety Poster Contest.  The only rules for the students were to include a bus somewhere in their artwork and also use the theme “I See The Driver - The Driver Sees Me!”  Now I could only send in 10 of these posters, so teachers did a blind vote to help me pick and choose.  Here are the winners at Eisenhower and the other 7 that will be sent to Topeka for judging! (Photos soon!)

Lions, and Tigers, and BEARS! 3rd

3rd grade started out this lesson by drawing animals that you would see at a circus. They had a difficult task of drawing the animals step by step as shapes and not an outline.  I was absolutely amazed at how well these 3rd graders could draw. Next class period we cut and designed a cage for the animals just like you would see on a circus train.

Kindergarten Clowns

Since its that time of year where many students will be visiting the circus I thought clowns made from many simple shapes would be the perfect lesson. This lesson I borrowed from a teacher that I student taught with. Every clown face is so unique and entertaining!

1st Circus Bears

These bears are far from a brown bear you would see in nature. We designed our bears with lots of pattern, color, and line.  Before students drew their bears they brainstormed a variety of lines zig-zag, dotted, swirl, straight, thick, thin, etc. Then looking closely we drew the bear one shape at a time.
